Big Bands
International was started by Founder Roy Belcher in August 1977. In the
first issue only two bands were listed, Syd Lawrence and Buddy Rich.
In issue No.108 August 2004 the Big Bands International magazine carried 12
UK bands involving 164 tour dates plus 3 USA Bands involving 80+ tour dates.
The Big
Bands International magazine (BBI) was taken over by Tony Mundell from Roy
Belcher in November 2002. Founder Roy Belcher continues to contribute
articles for BBI along with BBC Radio 2's Malcolm Laycock. The format of
the magazine remains largely unchanged carrying CD Reviews, Concert Reviews,
Tour Dates, Band Mail (Letters from readers).
Recent
innovations are the column spotlighting the big bands in the UK and USA,
Japan and South Africa plus Europe.
The Big Bands International
Magazine, is now 32pp in A5 size and is printed on good quality artpaper in
full colour, is published quarterly in FEBRUARY, MAY, AUGUST and NOVEMBER,
and is priced at £12 for four issues or €22
